What does it feel like to hold pain inside, unable to express it for a variety of reasons? That is the feeling captured behind the song Dungeons written by gifted singer-songwriter and actress, Skye Delamey. Dungeons was written by Skye Delamey for the sole purpose of spreading awareness and prevention of child abuse. Skye was asked to write this song for an abused children's organization called projectnightlight.org back in January of 2005. Within minutes of hearing that such a song was needed, Skye was able to sit down at her piano and create a powerful melody that helps to explain the experience of these children that are victims child abuse.
It is so great when the gift of creating art, whether through music, film or other forms, in some way helps to heal this world that we live in. Skye Delamey, an advocate of human rights, as wells as animal rights; a vegetarian and humanitarian, wrote this song to bring attention to the disease of child abuse in the world. She sings "it's not OK to suffer like this...children all need a safe place..." as a wake up call. This song is about caring for the children, to donate, to give time, effort, attention and love to them. There are children in orphanages that are abused constantly, who are unable to speak out. There are children in homes in which abused goes unnoticed. They are not able to speak out either. This song is a cry to stop the abuse and to be aware of it as well, to not tolerate it whatsoever!
The image of actual dungeons are often associated with medieval stories. In some of these stories there is an innocent princess captured behind the cold grey brick walls of the dungeon, screaming to no avail until one day she is saved by an external source; namely, a handsome and brave prince. When abused children attempt to free themselves from their own dungeons, they are often afraid, as a line from Skye Delamey's song Dungeons goes, they are "screaming in silence voices are trapped in paralyzing fear". It is up to us as people to become the brave "prince" that saves the innocent vicitms locked inside dungeons. It is up to us to be that external source, to make a difference, and to go beyond the brick walls and reach what's inside. Skye Delamey sings "Lets free them from the dungeons. Lets save them from the dungeons." Lets indeed save them. Join an abused children's organization. Donate your time, donate money. Spread awareness on a daily basis. Prevent abuse in every word and action with each other and with ourselves. Lets teach other to do the same. By beginning with ourselves we can help others and lead the way in helping to change the planet for the better. Let each of us become an advocate for the children who make up the future of our world. Lets prevent a painful future by spreading awareness and love today.
